It has been confirmed that two teenage girls have passed away after being trapped in a galamsey pit at Sanfo-Aduam in the Bekwai municipality in the Ashanti Region.

The two deceased girls who have been identified as Anita Yaa Foriwaa and Alicia are both pupils of the Sanfo-Aduam SDA primary school.

News reaching us (1Family Radio) is that the two girls who are both thirteen years of age got trapped in the galamsey pit after they went swimming in a river which was surrounded by some galamsey pits.

According to our sources, these teenage girls were trapped in the pit several hours before they passed away due to suffocation.

It is alleged that the two girls died on Friday, April 21, 2023 and their bodies were retrieved some few days ago.

The deceased teenagers were however buried on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 amidst sorrow and wailing in the community.

Some sympathizers who showed up to mourn with the bereaved family called on the government to cover the pits left by the illegal miners in the community to avoid a repetition of such tragedy from happening again.
