Ghanaian lawyer and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has rubbished a report by Frimpong Boateng which implicates him of interfering in the work of the IMCIM.

In a 36-page report by Frimpong Boateng, the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Otchere-Darko was accused of defending a company that was actively involved in illegal mininig.

According to the report, Otchere-Darko interfered with the work of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on illegal Mining (IMCIM).

In reaction to this, Otchere-Darko has asked the former minister why he didn’t take any action against him if his allegations were true.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM monitored by 1Family Radio, the lawyer stated that he only called the former minister based on the legality of what his clients were doing and the illegitimate action against them by the same state which had given them permits and license to operate its business.

“This report tells you how weak the former minister’s knowledge about his position is. If my actions were indeed illegitimate, why didn’t he take any legal action against me? He claims he has reported me to the president, as if the president is a headmaster and he is a teacher, and I am a prefect,’’ he noted.

“let the former minister come and say that when I called him, I ordered him to do something illegal. Let him come out and say that I was pushing for an illegitimate point when I called him.’’

Otchere continued that if Boateng has a problem, he should deal with it but he shouldn’t misinterpret his call.

“If Boateng has issues, he should learn how to deal with them, but he should not misinterpret a legitimate action of a lawyer on behalf of a client who had a legitimate case as a matter of interference,’’ Otchere said.
