My life was less important compared to the three new revenue bills – Nanton MP

The passage of the new bills was very crucial to me

Member of Parliament for the Nanton Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Hardi Tufeiru has narrated the incidence which led to his gory accident last Friday on his way to parliament.

Mr. Mohammed on Friday, 31st March was involved in an accident at the North Ridge which is about one kilometer away from parliament.

According to the lawmaker, the accident was a result of his reckless driving on his way to the chamber to vote for the passage of the three tax bills by the government.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM monitored by 1Family Radio, the lawmaker who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Agricultural asserted that the passage of these new bills was far more important than his own life that is why was over-speeding.

“Yes, yes, if you want to take it like that, I am fine,’’ he retorted when asked if he thinks the bills were more important than his life.

He explained that because he was driving on top speed, he failed to see the other vehicle approaching him because his focus on getting to the chamber to vote. The MP stated that he lost control of the steering wheel which made the vehicle summersaulted and landed upside down after he came out of the car through the windscreen.

Mr. Tufeiru narrated that after the incident occurred, he got to parliament via an uber and after his colleagues saw his condition, they took him to the washroom to attend to his wound. He stated that he was injected and an incision was made at the top of his right eye where he incurred a deep cut. But he still managed to vote.

“You probably don’t understand what happened but that passage of those bills was very crucial and I don’t really care about how people are going to feel about this.’’

“I was for Ghana, I was for my party and government and these bills must be passed by hook or crook,’’ he said.
