Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) has appeared before Parliamnet to brief them on the new Constitutional Instrument (CI) proposal.

During her submission which was monitored by 1Family Radio, Jean disclosed that the Ghana Card will be the only identification document for the registration of voters in the 2024 general elections.

According to her, the guarantor system used for the registration of voters is prone to abuse and there is the need to annihilate it by replacing it with the Ghana Card.

The EC chairperson indicated that the Constitutional Instrument seeks to make the Ghana Card the only document which will be used to register voters in the 2024 elections. She hinted that the Ghana Card will validate the credibility of the voters register and the elections in general.

She added that the Ghana Card will avoid minors from enrolling and also ensure that no foreigner can vote during the elections.

She advised that the guarantor system must be abolished because it is prone to abuse.
