Ghanaian former midfielder, Derek Owusu Boateng called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to focus a bit more on the juvenile football of Ghana rather than the Black Stars.
Boateng is of the view that the GFA has become too reliant on the Black Stars, forsaking the younger teams in the process.
According to him, developing the young players through the ranks is the best approach to ensure a bright future because they are much easier to teach and groom than more seasoned players in the senior national team.
“In my opinion, it’s about time the FA concentrated on youth football and gave Black Stars a break. He noted in an interview on Joy FM monitored by 1Family Radio.
“When you visit the U17 and the child is struggling, you have a lot to discuss with him. You can give him advice and encourage him to play again.’’
“You will be able to offer him words of support. When it comes to youth football, where is the care?’’ he quizzed.
He continued that the GFA must do everything possible to revive the juvenile football in the country.
“There is nothing, and they ought to be announcing that we are bringing back colts and improving our junior national teams,’’ he added.
