The government in a statement release has expressed its gratitude to the media in the country for their contribution to the development of the country.

The statement was part of the observation of the World Press Freedom Day on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

The statement which was issued by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information urged the media in the country to continue the work they have been doing in promoting national development.

‘Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a driver for all other human rights,’ is the theme for this year’s World Press Freedom Day.

According to the statement, the media has made significant contributions to national development by bringing into light some issues that need immediate attention.

“The media has been very significant over the years in accentuating various rights that require attention for full enjoyment,’’ the statement noted.

“The work of the media in bringing into the light instances of abuse of some human rights by some societies has led to reparation in some instances. We therefore urge the media to remain resolute on this path.

It continued, “the pursuit of the media to ensure that all citizens have full access to their economic rights is yet to be accomplished especially now that the world is facing dim economic forecasts.’’

“While beseeching the media in Ghana to keep the limelight on all human rights, we also encourage a more keen focus on efforts to ensure that the economic rights of Ghanaians are fully achieved,’’ the statement hinted.
