Police arrests Axim galamsey gang leader and three others

Kwame is expected to assist the Police in their investigations

Kwame Ato Asare alias Kwame Ani, the alleged galamsey gang leader in Axim declared wanted by the police has been arrested together with three others.

According to the police, his arrest was in connection with the attack on the Axim Distruct Police patrol team on March 9, 2023.

The three other suspects who have been identified as Williams Kwofie, Richard Kwesi and Emmanuel Kojo Bronie were arrested on April 21, 2023 at a village in the Western North Region where they had gone into hiding.

A Facebook post by the Ghana Police Service sighted by 1Family Radio stated that Kwame, the leader of the group alleged that the Axim District Police Commander, the Crime Officer and other Police officers in the area extorted money from illegal miners.

The statement furthered noted that these allegations levelled by Kwame are being investigated by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).

Kwame is however expected to aid the police investigate into the said allegations and any Police officer found culpable will be put through the due process to be sanctioned in accordance with the laws of the country.
