Michael Essien, Ghanaian former professional footballer has expressed optimistic about his generation of footballers becoming good coaches in Europe if given the chance.
According to him, it takes smartness and passion to get such an opportunity and he believes that his colleagues would be able to get to the top if they decide to.
“I think it’s just a matter of time before you start seeing my generation of footballers becoming top coaches in Europe,’’ he stated in an interview with DW monitored by 1Family Radio.
He continued, “If you are smart and have the zeal for the game and still wish to do something in and around football, the opportunities will present itself.’’
The former Black Stars midfielder however noted that being a good player doesn’t mean guarantee that you will be a good coach. He therefore pleaded with fans and supporters to be patient with players who are now transitioning into coaches.
“People mostly think that being a professional player at the highest level automatically makes you a good coach.’’
“It is very simple to venture into coaching but it is totally different from being a player. That is why I have managed to take my time and take it day by day,’’ Michael said.
