Ibrahim Tanko, the head coach of the Black Meteors has explained why Afena-Gyan turned down the invitation from the team.
Afena-Gyan made his first appearance in the Black Stars during the FIFA World Cup play-off against Nigeria.
According to Ibrahim Tanko, he added Afena Gyan in his U-23 final 26-man squad for the AFCON 2023 qualification doubleheader match against Algeria.
Speaking to the media which was monitored by 1Family Radio, Ibrahim noted that Afena-Gyan declined the invitation to join the team leaving him with only 25 players.
He stated, ‘’I added Afena-Gyan to my list. But I don’t know why he is not here. I personally spoke to his agent about three times and what he kept telling me is that Afena-Gyan is not ready.’’
