The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has debunked the claims of harassments by NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong.

An earlier report by 1Family Radio indicated that the Assin Central lawmaker in an interview on Sompa FM disclosed that he is being harassed by the GRA. He hinted that the GRA sent some officials to monitor the number of fishes he sells in a day.  According to Kennedy, this is a conspiracy by the NPP government to cripple his businesses.

However, the GRA in a press release has refuted this allegation of harassment by the MP. The statement which was signed by Mrs. Florence Asante, the Assistant Commissioner clarified that these exercises are regularly conducted to check the value of goods imported and their intended use.

“GRA wishes to categorically refute the specific allegation of harassment at a factory under construction owned by the MP. We wish to clarify that as part of GRA’s mandate and in line with World Customs Organization’s (WCO) guidelines in ensuring adherence to the best practices; such exercises are regularly conducted,’’ the statement sighted by 1Family Radio noted.

According to the statement, these exercises entail stationing staff on the premises of VAT registered businesses such as shops, restaurants and manufacturing sites to check the issuance of VAT invoices.

It was noted that the invigilation exercises were successful and the GRA intends to scale up the invoice invigilation from April 2023 as part of its revenue mobilization efforts.

“Management wishes to use this opportunity to assure Honorable Kennedy Agyapong and all taxpayers of our readiness to receive complaints and feedback on our work as we partner to mobilize revenue for national development,’’ the statement indicated.
