Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the president to explain how the outbreak of COVID led the economy into shambles.
According to him, President Akuffo-Addo has blamed the current economic mess on the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war instead of admitting to the fact that he has mismanaged the economy.
The president during the State of the Nation Address on the 8th of March,2023, indicated that the economy was doing well until the outbreak of COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war.
However, speaking in an interview on Metro TV monitored by 1Family Radio, Sammy noted that COVID was a global pandemic which means it affected all countries and not Ghana only. He added that all our neighboring countries were affected by the pandemic but they are not doing debt restructuring. “Which of our neighboring countries has defaulted in the repayment of its debt?’’ he quizzed.
He demanded that the president must tell Ghanaians which of our neighboring countries has sought for international bailout. ‘’Which of our neighbors today is experiencing inflation of 53.6%?’’ he asked.
Sammy Gyamfi noted that he doesn’t understand how COVID skipped all our neighboring countries and decided to destroy Ghana’s economy.
