Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency has indicated that he is not afraid to go to prison for carrying out his constitutional mandate of oversight.
Few days ago, the secretary of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng alias Kwabena Adu Gyamfi secured a ten-day restraining order against Ablakwa. This was after Ablakwa accused him of Conflict of interest and also dual identity. Ablakwa kicked the documents by the court at the premises of a television station.
In a post shared by the lawmaker, he expressed his profound gratitude to the people who have supported and encouraged him since he began the series of the cathedral exposés in the pursuit of his constitutional mandate of oversight.
He added that in a country where people with dual identity are protected by the state and lawmakers discharging their duties become victims of harassment, court injunction and threats of imprisonment is undoubtedly in a dark pit.
“let the cowardly forces of tyranny be told that I am not one to be frightened with imprisonment’’, he noted. He furthered that he is prepared to be a political prisoner with conscience than to become an accomplice to the crimes committed by the corrosive enemies of the country.
Ablakwa mentioned that people like Nkrumah, Rawlings, Mandela and Kenyatta have taught us to conquer the fear of prison and to always stand for the truth because truth and justice cannot be caged.
