A flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has come under fire from Yaw Adomako Baafi, the party’s former communications director, for recent assaults on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a video that appeared online over the weekend, Ken Agyapong was heard blasting an unnamed NPP party member for the party’s bad handling of the economy.
“It is only in Ghana that you can take the economy to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and still call yourself a strategist. If the NPP doesn’t run a clean campaign, there will always be trouble because I will respond to every allegation made against me. When we were taking over power, the dollar was GH4, today, one dollar is GH12, and you still call yourself a strategist. Excuse me! A strategist indeed,’’ Kennedy Agyapong noted.
However, according to Adomako Baafi, Kennedy Agyapong’s criticism of Bawumia stems from his desire for power, animosity, and envy for the latter.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, monitored by 1Family Radio, the former Communications Director stated that Kennedy Agyapong was all praise for Bawumia until he began his presidential campaign.
“Everyone should visit GhanaWeb and read what Kennedy Agyapong said about Dr. Bawumia earlier, referring to him as the best candidate; but, since you are competing with him and making these statements out of greed, I won’t waste my time on you. However, what matters most is that Bawumia is a human being, so he may still be flawed in some way.’’
“I was with Kennedy Agyapong in 2007, when Bawumia joined the party, so I’m very careful to speak negatively about him, but the point is that when Bawumia set 175 questions for Amissah Arthur, I was sitting with Ken in his station, and he was saying, ‘Bawumia is intelligent, but today he’s not right?
“What! This man is intelligent,” he said when Bawumia was defending the party in court. But now, because of power, you’re downgrading him. If you recall, Kennedy Agyapong was the only person to speak against bringing Bawumia to the party, so he is revisiting his hatred for him,’’ he said.
