Veteran Ghanaian actor Ekow Smith Asante has disclosed that most actors and actresses in Ghana are really suffering because of the current state of the economy.

According to him, the money earned from acting is not enough to build a house in the finest residential areas like East Legon.

He also dispelled the notion that Ghanaian actors enjoy a lavish lifestyle with the proceeds they earn from their acting careers.

Speaking in an interview with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM, monitored by 1Family Radio, the film producer noted that an actor can only afford such luxury if it’s a favor from a very wealthy person.

“I think building a house in East Legon would be difficult. It is very dicey because actors and actresses, for instance, get favors,’’ he said.

“Someone can give me something because of the role I played in a particular movie. With gifts from prominent people, you might be able to build a house in East Legon.’’

“But I think it will take a very long time without the favor or support of someone to build a house in East Legon,’’ he said.

“How much are you paid, GH10,000, GH20,000, GH30, 000, or what?’’ Ekow Smith quizzed.

However, Ekow Smith is not the only actor to reveal similar things about the film industry.
