Kobby Mensah, a political analyst and a senior lecture at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has alleged that the level of corruption in the country is equivalent to the number of old people we have in governance.

According to him, most of these old people in power rule with some sort of postponed gratification mentality. Implying that, most of the old folks have not been able to achieve their dreams, goals and ambition in life therefore the little chance they get knowing very well that they have limited time, they would want to achieve all their ambitions before they leave power.

Speaking in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM monitored by 1Family Radio, Mr. Mensah stated that young people understand that they have a lot of time ahead of them therefore they are very conscious about their actions.

“When people are at the tail end of their lives, they try to achieve all their ambitions in life. This is why we see our resources being squandered by these old folks because they feel there is not enough time for them. They feel they must gather more resources before they leave power.’’

“This is why I said the more older people we have in our political system, the more corruption there is in the country,’’ he explained.

He furthered that it takes more than resources to be in politics. He believes that it takes time, energy, skills and creativity to do politics and this is why the youth must be given space in our political space because all these are characteristics of the youth.

The lecturer added that the earlier the youth steps into the political system, the better for the country because they are already exposed to political issues due to social media.
