The Ministry of Finance has confirmed the reintroduction of road tolls this year in a letter issued to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

The collection of road tolls was abolished in 2022 by the government after the introduction of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy). However, the government will resume the collection of road tolls on some selected roads in the country this year.

In the statement sighted by 1Family Radio, the Minister of Finance disclosed that cancellation of the road tolls has hindered the generation of revenue by the government. Therefore Ken-Ofori Atta announced the introduction of the road tolls in the 2022 budget read to parliament.

“We are by this letter sending the recommended rates for the input by the Ministry of Roads and Highways to enable this Ministry to finalize the schedule of fees under the upcoming legislative instrument,” the statement noted.
