Vodafone completes transfer of its majority shares to Telecel Group

The 70% majority shares of the Vodafone Group Plc has finally been transferred to the Telecel Group after completing all the necessary administrative approvals which includes the endorsement of the government as a minority shareholder.

An initial proposal by the Telecel Group was rejected by the National Communications Authority last year because it didn’t meet the required regulatory standards. However, they were given the approval after they submitted a revised proposal in December,2022.

In a statement release by the NCA on February 21,2023, sighted by 1Family Radio indicated that the transfer was finalized after a satisfaction of conditions were outlined in the conditional approval of the shares transfer which includes the government’s endorsement.

The Telecel Group have also stated that they would use this acquisition to raise funds for the operation of Vodafone in Ghana. They also intend on providing exceptional services to Ghanaian.

According to Malek Atrissi, the Chief Operations Officer of the Telecel Group the acquisition of Vodafone is an opportunity to develop and bring modern offerings to their subscribers, enterprises and communities in the country.

The CEO of Vodafone Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai assured that Vodafone Ghana will continue to provide Ghanaians with innovative products and services. She added that this is an opportunity for them to explore new areas of development.
